About Us

Welcome to the web site of St. George's Anglican Church, Helmetta, NJ. We are glad you took the time to check us out. If you are not already familiar with the Anglican Church, you probably have some questions about who we are.

The Anglican Church is a worldwide Christian community with over 70 million members, originating from the Church of England. There is a great variety of practice and expression from one Anglican Church to another, so you need to know a little more about us than just our denomination.

The emphasis for us here at St. George's has been on teaching the authority of God's Word in the Bible, and on ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit. That is why we joined CANA, the Convocation o f Anglicans in North America. CANA is a ministry of the Church of Nigeria.

We believe that all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit spoken of in the New Testament are active and available to Christians today. This reaffirms for us the truth and reliability of the Bible as a guide for life, and as the true source of authority for the church. This is expressed in our mission statement:

"The mission of St. George's Church is to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, to love Him, serve Him, and witness His love to the world."

If you want a fuller explanation of our beliefs, I would suggest you check the "Catechism" site. This gives a longer, more systematic statement of the faith of the Anglican Church. If you are from a Roman Catholic background, you may want to see the "Anglican/Roman Catholic" site. We will continue to add more information as we go, so check out all of our resource sites.
